One Day We Put Aside – To Dance and Laugh

Women, young and old, from the forests of Panna, gathered to put aside their daily burdens – just to sing, dance, and laugh together.

No matter that we lost our lands for the tigers.

No matter that we still await the development we were promised when we moved.

No matter that we are harassed for walking into our own forest for firewood and wild food.

No matter that we face crop losses and cattle deaths.

No matter that we live with TB and silicosis.

For one day in March, on Women’s Day, we met to dance.

And even now, we still hold hands to resist.
