The summer heat is exacerbating the water crisis in Ganj Basoda, Madhya Pradesh. With a rocky landscape, accessing water has become a daily struggle as many hand pumps remain inoperable or have dried up. For the Adivasi Sahariya families who depend on daily wage labour, this scarcity means they must spend precious hours walking long distances to fetch water, which cuts into the time they could be working to earn a living.

Recently, women from Barodiya, Aboopur Kucholi and Kucholi Pataar villages presented their urgent demands to the Sub-Divisional Magistrate, as highlighted by the local media. Their livelihoods and survival are directly threatened, making immediate access to clean drinking water critical. The women are requesting the administration to repair hand pumps, install pipelines, and ensure regular water supply through tankers, while they provide long term solutions to the ground water crisis in this mining ravaged landscape.
We urge the Vidisha district authorities to hear the women's voices before the summer temperatures soar and make the Sahariyas more vulnerable to heat waves.
Together, let's stand for the Sahariyas and their right to water!
The region's water woes and the women's call for action covered by the local media.
