Providing Learning Kits to Sahariya Children in Vidisha

Children get learning kits at the evening centre in Khajuri

Dhaatri recently distributed learning kits to children in Khajuri village in Madhya Pradesh's Vidisha District. These children, who attend evening centres as part of our community education programme, received books and other essential stationery supplies.

The Sahariya tribe, classified as a Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group (PVTG), faces numerous challenges in the mining-affected villages of Vidisha. The high prevalence of tuberculosis (TB) and suspected silicosis has contributed to a rise in child and adolescent labour within the mining and construction industries here. Limited access and risky transportation further hinder educational opportunities for the children.

Children read from their newly-received books

As part of the programme, we have established evening centres where children from classes 1 to 8 can go after school to engage in playful and interactive learning activities. These centres serve as a complement to the education provided in government schools, helping to bridge any learning gaps caused due to the challenges faced by the community. Our barefoot educators at these centres focus on age-specific and class-specific levels, incorporating games, activities, art, and basic subject lessons, ensuring that the children receive holistic education.
